Honoring Day of Remembrance: Children’s Art from an American Concentration Camp
On Sunday, February 22, Dr. Ayumi Nagase and Dana Shew held a panel discussion on the exhibition “Topaz Toddlers: Children’s Art From an American Concentration Camp.” The exhibition, on view in the OACC Gallery 1, showcases the art, stories, and history of preschoolers incarcerated at Utah’s WWII Japanese American incarceration camp, Topaz. Joining the panel were Sonoma State student Samara Stout, and three of the "toddler" artists (now octogenarians), who offered their memories of the camp and their work alongside Dr. Nagase's analysis of the work from an early childhood education research perspective.
