MICHAEL STOYKA has had experience as a technician, Site Health and Safety Officer, Crew Chief, or Field Supervisor on more than 1,000 cultural CRM projects. He is an expert in the excavation of historic-era and prehistoric archaeological features, the excavation of human skeletal remains, and the field identification of osteological material. He is a consultant to the Sonoma, Lake, and Napa County Sheriff Departments. His general skills also include reconnaissance and remote-sensing survey, recording of prehistoric and historic sites and features using GPS and Total Station technologies, heavy equipment monitoring, use of the Harris Matrix during excavation of complex historic sites, field supervision, archival research, scientific illustration, flotation, site analysis, and technical writing.
Mr. Stoyka has worked on numerous historic and prehistoric surveys and urban excavations, including New York, New York; Albany, New York; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Los Angeles, Oakland, Sacramento, Stockton, San Francisco, and Puerto Rico. He is experienced with rural historic sites, including farmsteads and work camps, mining landscapes, and desert and Great Basin archaeology. Mr. Stoyka has completed a CAL-OSHA-approved 40-hour Hazardous Waste Site Worker's Health and Safety Training program, with an additional Hazardous Site Supervisor course, and annual 8-hour refresher courses since 1987. Mr. Stoyka also has Confined Space, Competent Person, First Aid/CPR, AED, and PADI SCUBA certifications for Open Water, Nitrox, and Altitude diving.
