Mark Selverston and Chris Ward were awarded the Nevada County Historical Society Distinguished Service Award for their contributions to the research and public interpretation of Nevada County history. Notable achievements include the publication of Ward's Cemeteries of the Western Sierra, the creation of Malakoff's French Connection event, extensive work at gold mines in the county, including the Kentucky Ridge slave mine, the study of a historic Nisenan neighborhood at North Bloomfield, and identifying ethnographic Nisenan sites, amongst many others.
